Bullied to death: a young girl dies for being beautiful

March 24, 2009 - Whеn Jеssіcа Logan, a bubbly, compassionate and carefree high schooler, sent a nude photo of herself to her new boyfriend's cell phone, she thought she was doing what so many other typical 18-year-olds do: being flirty and fun with someone she loved. She couldn't have known that the fallout from that one innocent act would lead to her death.

Her boyfriend callously forwarded the nude photo of Jessica to four other girls, who circulated it and began a torrent of abuse that eventually drove her to suicide. Jessica would get scores of text messages, MySpace, and Facebook entries from people she didn't know calling her "Pоrn Qυееn. Slut. Whore."

"She just totally changed" her close friend said. "I remember her constantly calling my phone crying."

Jеssіе Lоgаn hung herself on July 3, 2008.

Jessie's parents are pushing for more involvement from schools and local authorities to curb what they consider a form of "bullying". But this is more than bullying. It's murder. It's an example of how eager even the young are nowadays to pounce on a beautiful girl. It's the same motive of mobs who, in the past, have thrown women into volcanos or today stone r4pе victims to death.

Once again, the mass media have missed the real story. And that story is: a girl has been killed for daring to celebrate being beautiful, and that those who mocked her for it, are her killers. In fact, we're not sure what's worse, Jessica's death or the mass media evading and perpetuating the cause, as it has for decades, since the death of Mаrіlyn Mоnrое, and more recently in the death of Annа Nіcоlе Smith.

We at Body in Mind are not so naive and frail as these women, nor are we self-blinded like the general media. We know female beauty is a GOOD thing. And we believe women displaying their beauty deserve admiration, and respect.

For the sake of girls like Jessica, and for women like Annа Nіcоlе Smith and Mаrіlyn Mоnrое, remember, badmouthing beauty kills.
