Nеw Dоrа the Explorer causes outrage

March 19, 2009 - If you have a little girl under the age of 7 or so, you probably know who Dora the Explorer is. She's a mop-top cartoon character who spends every tv episode on an exploring trip to find something or help somebody. She engages kids in finding new ways of getting to the places she has to go, and also teaches the kids Spanish.

But as her viewership grows up, Mattel and Nickelodeon have decided to give her a makeover, into a 'tween'. And parents are furious.

"Dіd Mаttel turn Dora the Explorer into a Tramp?" screamed a headline from the Hυffіngtоn Pоst.

By 'tramp', they are apparently referring to the long leggings and tunic that cover the entire body of this new figure. Dora has longer hair and wears some typical tween jewelry, but she is, in every way, a typical pre-teen girl.

Some parents are outraged at her 'shapely legs', calling the new image 'sexed-up' and a poor example for kids.

Mattel in return has promised that the original Dora isn't going away, and that this Dora is simply a way to keep the iconic character age appropriate.
