Texas strip clubs face 'pole tax'

January 1, 2008 - As of today, strip-club owners in Texas must start paying a new tax - dubbed by some the 'pole' tax - of $5 per customer. The tax is projected to earn an estimated $40 million, most of which will be donated to help r4pе victims.

A club in Amarillo is challenging the tax, saying it discriminates by not targeting nude modelling studios and adult movie theatres, and that it violates the Texas constitution, which requires that 25% of all occupation-specific taxes must benefit public schools. All this will accomplish, we believe, is to give the legislators behind this tax even more people to target unfairly.

We'd prefer that the strip-club owners fight the tax on the merits (or lack thereof) of the issue. By giving proceeds to r4pе victims, it implies that there is somehow a connection between strip clubs and r4pе, and that strip club patrons must pay for their 'sins' by helping their 'victims'. This idea is what the owners - and anyone who loves female beauty - should be fighting.
